The SAMOS web pages were developed by the Research Vessel Surface Meteorology Data Center at the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies. Base funding for SAMOS activities at COAPS are provided by the NOAA Global Ocean Monitoring and Observing Program. NOAA funds initially were distributed through an Applied Research Center administered by the NOAA Office of Global Programs (NA06OAR4310070). Starting in 2011, NOAA funds were distributed through the Northern Gulf of Mexico Cooperative Institute administered by Mississippi State University (NA11OAR4320199, NA160AR4320199, NA210AR4320190). Support for participation by university-operated vessels is provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Oceanographic Instrumentation and Technical Services (OITS) Program via a subcontract from the Lamont Dogherty Earth Observatory grants OCE-0947784, OCE-1447797, OCE-1949707. Starting in 2013, the Schmidt Ocean Institute (SOI) provides annual contract funding to include the RV Falkor and the RV Falkor (too) in the SAMOS initiative. Prior support for the SAMOS program include a grant administered by the NOAA cooperative institute at WHOI (A100386) and a pilot project (OCE-0917685).

The SAMOS Data Assembly Center wishes to acknowledge the contributions of our pilot project partners at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Our partners were instrumental in developing the first routine, automated ship-to-DAC transfers of SAMOS observations. The DAC also thanks members of the U.S. and international research vessel community for their continued contributions to the SAMOS initiative. The close collaboration between the SAMOS data center personnel and the research vessel operators and technicians is the backbone to the success of the SAMOS initiative.

Success of the SAMOS initiative is possible due to a wide range of partnerships between atmospheric, climate, and ocean scientists, marine technicians, U.S. and international panels and committees, and program managers at NOAA, NSF, and SOI. The SAMOS DAC specifically acknowledges contributions from members of the University-National Oceaonographic Laboratory System, Rolling Deck to Repository project, Voluntary Observing Ship Climate (VOSClim) Program, Global Ocean Surface Underway Data Pilot Project, and World Climate Research Program Working Group on Surface Fluxes. We also wish to thank the managers and archivists at the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information and the National Center for Atmospheric Research for their contributions to ensure that the SAMOS data are preserved for future generations of scientists and the public at large.
