The initial release of SAMOS meteorological data includes preliminary data from vessels participating in the 2005 data pilot project. These data are made available through a near-real time data stream that includes daily transmission of meteorological and near-surface oceanographic data collected by SAMOS at nominal one-minute intervals.
The preliminary version of the SAMOS data are available within ~5 minutes of receipt at the Data Assembly Center. The preliminary data have undergone common formatting and automated data quality evaluation. Please note that multiple preliminary files may exist for a single calendar day as a result of data for that day arriving at the DAC at different wall-clock times. The preliminary files are designed for fast availability with common formatting and quality evaluation.
A search tool is available to allow selection of desired data. The tool will display all available preliminary SAMOS files. If you just click search, then you will see ALL files for all ships. If a ship (or multiple ships) are chosen, then it will limit the results to those ships. If a date (or multiple dates) are entered, then it will limit the results to those dates. Finally, if a ship(s) are selected AND a date(s) are entered, the search will be limited to those ship(s) and date(s). In addition, you can choose to the sort the results by date, or by ship in a situation where multiple dates and multiple ships appear. Once a list of files appears, you will have the option to view files (netCDF text dumps) and select files to download. Upon selecting files you can choose a type of compression and have your selected files sent to your computer via the browser. Your download package will include documentation on
file formats and
quality flag definitions.
